Ballast Life LVD™ ballasts are built to last 100,000 hours for separate fixtures, and 60,000 hours for compact fixtures. The induction light tubes, because there are not filaments and electrodes, will last for ever. LED itself can last 50,000 Hrs life, which is limited by the integrated chips. however, the best brand ballast driver for LED would have average rated life of 15,000 to 20,000. Ballast life greatly constrains the life of LED light.

Heat Sink The light tube does not generate much heat. Heat generated by the ballast can be dispersed easily, especially for those light fixture models that separate the tube and the ballast Due to the fact that LED underperforms or even fails when temperature rises. Therefore aggressive heat sink needed to disperse the heat generated by the electronic chips and the ballast. Compact LED lamp create even bigger issue for heat dispersing.

Capacity (power and light output) Induction light are available over 300 watt, and provide over 50,000 pupil lumen for each light. Some models with 500watt are now available. The biggest high power LED is 1 watt at current commercial use (very expensive). So high power LED light will require hundreds of LEDs. Due to the fixture size and heat sink constrain, LED light are generally build under 150W (200W if fan cooled), and give the light output of less than 20,000 lumens.
